Automotive

Repair garage roll-ups, parts distribution, specialty dealers. Fragmented owner-operators with MOT annuities and local monopolies.

We analysed 69,676 UK Automotive companies. 961 score 70+ for exit readiness.

Why Automotive?

The UK automotive sector is dominated by thousands of independent repair garages, MOT testing centres, parts specialists, and smaller motor vehicle dealers — a classic fragmented cottage industry with deep succession pressure. Repair businesses (SIC 45200) are particularly attractive to search fund operators: recurring MOT and service revenue, local customer loyalty, owner-retirement dynamics, and opportunities to consolidate neighbouring garages under shared brand and back-office systems. Parts distribution offers a different but equally compelling thesis — category-specific roll-ups with supplier relationships and trade account stickiness. Motor vehicle dealerships sit at the periphery of the ETA thesis due to OEM franchise dependencies, but specialty and used dealers remain viable targets.
